Innovative green graphene for high-tech applications – step 1

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The purpose of the project is to develop a process for production of high quality graphene from biomass. We call it green graphene. The graphene that can be mass-produced does not have the properties necessary for the high-tech applications that graphene have the potential to revolutionise. Another advantage of our green graphene is that it comes from renewable sources. The mass-produced graphene on the market today is made from graphite. A long term and important goal of the project is that our green graphene will be used in environmentally friendly, sustainable energy storage solutions. This is what our green graphene is optimized for and it is an important part of moving towards a fossil free energy society.

The project is based on an innovation (patent pending) that allows biomass to be converted to graphene. The aim of this project is to develop the process further to enable a continuous production process. This needs to be in place before the next step, which is a lab scale pilot production. At the moment; the process is batch oriented, which entails major limitations in the ability to scale up production. The goal is to be able to begin the next stage of development at the end of the project.
