In the project, three SMEs, FineCell Sweden AB (SE), Elastopoli Oy (FI), and All-Plast Oy (FI), which specialize in the development, manufacture, and application of nanocellulose-based
reinforcing materials, compounding of biocomposites, and molding of biocomposites respectively, will jointly work on finding technically and economically viable solutions for making lightweight biocomposites based on nanocellulose and bioplastics, with good mechanical properties meeting the requirements of at least two target applications.
The goals are to;
- Demonstrate that, lightweight biocomposites based on nanocellulose and bioplastics can be made in simulated operational environment and used for target applications
- Develop business cases and a concrete plan for the commercialization of the corresponding new technology and products
- Assess the new technology’s contribution to an improved sustainability through a complete LCA
The project’s outcome can contribute to key enabling technologies for biobased products and is of great importance for these SMEs’ growth.
Participants
FineCell Sweden AB, Elastopoli Oy and All-Plast Oy.
Budget & time plan
The project’s budget is 1 059 000 SEK (from the Swedish partner) plus 116 000 EUR (from the Finnish partners), of which 50% will be co-financed. The project runs between December 2019 and November 2020.
